Something From Your Past May Right For Your Health

By Tom Herrin

When people go about looking for something to improve their exercise routine, there are plenty of choices out there.  Exercise clubs and classes are all over.  Many people are into jogging.  Some people get into weightlifting or other high impact activities.  A lot simpler option could be something that is almost second nature for most people.  Sometimes people just overlook the obvious because it doesn’t seem to have the glamour or the hype that can be found in so many other kinds of activities.  Riding a bicycle is something that hides in most people’s past.  Dusting off those skills may be a solution for the need for exercise.

It Is Low Stress On The Joints

As people age, finding activities that keep joint stress low often becomes a high priority.  This is a good way to reduce the wear and extend the usefulness of those parts of the body that get so much action.  It can shift the weight of the body from the typical walking position to something different.  It has been my go-to exercise to help reduce impact on my feet and legs.

It Is One of Those Aerobic Exercises

There are different kinds of exercises that cause the body to do different things.  Anaerobic exercises are those that require bursts of activity using high amounts of oxygen in a short period of time.  Aerobic activities use oxygen at a steady pace.  This means supplying better oxygen to the muscles and brain spreads out more evenly over a longer period of time.  Bicycling is generally considered an aerobic activity that helps build a stronger heart.  That is a good thing for anyone.

It Builds Muscles

For people who want to do some toning of their muscles, bicycle riding can be a simple way of doing that.  It is one of the best way of developing the lower body, meaning primarily the legs.  Steady riding can improve the leg muscles and provide more endurance.  Since this type of exercise also uses some physical stress to work the muscles, it can help improve bone density.  This is always a great help for those of us who are beginning to fall into that older age group.  If you want something that can make a difference in a fairly short period of time, try taking up bicycle riding.  Once you get on, it will likely come right back to you.
