For Blood Pressure Problems, Take Part in Care
By Tom Herrin
Not everyone has problems with blood pressure, but as they age, it often shows up. For most, making some commitments to minor changes in lifestyle may make the difference. It is true that there are times in which some kinds of medications are necessary, but more often than not, lifestyle is the biggest thorn in the side of those in need of change. It can be tough because it requires making a change in things that have become habit, but when one goes about them a little at a time, they may experience some improvements in health that may well begin with better blood pressure. Most people know that, when blood pressure is out of control, the entire body can feel it. There is a long list of symptoms that may show up.
Develop a Routine of Regular Exercise
Everyone knows they need to exercise, but many ignore the fact. Some envision being in some kind of gym, dripping with sweat anytime they think about it. This does not have to be the case at all. Mild exercise is much better than none at all. For those who haven't been making any kind of effort to exercise, walking 15 or 20 minutes may make a life-saving difference. It does not have to be all or none. Finding a little time and scheduling it may be the key to a good beginning. Whether or not this leads to more is not the biggest concern. Simply making a decision to do it can be a great start.
If You Drink, You May Cutting Back
Some people have alcohol as part of their lives and some do not. For those who do, reducing the amount of alcohol they consume can help. Obviously cutting it out may have a major impact, but simply making definite changes can move blood pressure numbers in the right directions. For those who can manage well, it has often been thought that some moderate amounts can help blood pressure. For example, drinking a few ounces of some wines each day have been thought to provide benefits. For those with little self-control, giving it up may be better.
It Is All About Motivation
I have found that, when it can make an improvement in my health, I can do a lot of things. I have had good success with doing some simple things. Cutting a few things from my diet and adding others may be all it takes to see some real progress in blood pressure. I always felt that I would much rather make those changes than begin taking medication. So far, it has worked well for me. It may be worth a try for you.
