How to Prepare to Go Back to the Gym After a Break
By Alexis Mills
If it has been awhile since you have been to the gym, it can be intimidating and it's so important that you be careful. When you step into the gym, there are many options for equipment, and it be overwhelming to figure out what you should be doing. But before you even step into the gym, it is important to prepare yourself and get into the right mindset.
Visit a Chiropractor
It might be surprising to hear that a chiropractor can help you transition back into the gym and being active again, but they really can. A chiropractor can help awaken your body to make working out again easier and smoother. By helping your range of motion, working on your muscles and joints, and strengthening the brain to body connection, you are helping make exercise in general easier. If you have restrictive joints or pain, then chiropractic care can help alleviate that and make regular exercise easier on your body again. Also, as you start to work out again, regular chiropractic care can help your muscles recover faster and more efficiently. Stop into The Joint Chiropractic to get this care to help you along your fitness journey.
When getting your body ready to be active regularly again, stretching will also help work the muscles and joints to make you less likely to incur injury. By stretching regularly, you are improving your flexibility and range of motion. To ease yourself back into it, stretch before and after working out.
Don't Rush It or Overdo it
When you first feel motivated to work out again, it can really be empowering and could make you go overboard by doing too much. While it's great to be working out again, a rigorous routine can leave you feeling burnt out quick. Also, starting off with what you feel comfortable doing, and doing low-intensity workouts, are a great introduction. Start with exercise you enjoy, don't rush it, and focus on your form. This is a marathon not a sprint.
Don't Skimp on Sleep
When you are first starting to work out, sleep is needed to help your body recover. When you're first getting started, it takes more time and energy than you might think and could leave you fatigued. Your body is getting used to burning more calories and working in ways it hasn't in a while. Your body will thank you for getting the rest that it needs.
Be proud of yourself for getting back into living a more active lifestyle in which you are taking care of your health. That is something to be proud of! Know that this is just the beginning of the journey; each day, do the best that you can do. You are investing your time and energy into an improved quality of life.
