Give Your Body What it Needs for Optimal Fitness
By Donna Stark
As much as I don't always like to exercise, there are times when my body craves more during a workout, when it says to me, "Come on. Is that all you got?" Sometimes it happens during those days when I feel super-energized and other times it occurs when my fitness routine has plateaued and my body wants to be pushed even harder. If your daily workouts aren't keeping your body happy and it is crying out for more as well, it may be time for something new. And whether that's a new healthy habit or a new form of exercise, we've got you covered! Check out the following tips on how to break through to the next level of fitness.
Consume a Healthy Diet
Food is fuel and if your body is running out of gas during your workouts, you may need to give your diet an overhaul. By consuming a well-balanced and nutritious diet, you can ensure that your body has adequate amounts of energy and endurance while you exercise! And for optimal performance, make sure you are getting the correct number of complex carbs from your foods.
Love Your Workouts
If the treadmill bores you to tears or if you don't like the fitness class you signed up for, you might end up losing all the motivation you need to get through your workouts, and that can be the death of any improvement you wish to make. So break out of your rut and start incorporating the exercises you love into your daily routine. Grab your bathing suit and swim some laps or pull your bike out of the garage and hit the road. Chances are, you won't even notice how hard you're pushing yourself since you'll be having so much fun.
Get Some Rest
You certainly can't put forth your best effort during your workouts if you are nodding off on the stationary bike and you don't want to push your body past the breaking point, so make sure you are getting the recommended amount of sleep every night and give your body a rest between intense workouts.
Work Out With a Friend
It's so easy to talk yourself out of a workout but it's extremely hard to cancel on a friend, especially one who is counting on you to show up! Having a workout partner is beneficial to your progress because, in addition to holding each other accountable, it is also a great way to find that extra motivation you need to stick to your commitment! On top of that, it may even encourage you to push yourself a little harder!
It's time to get out of that boring old rut you have found yourself in and listen to your body! It's screaming for something more, so take the time to figure out what is missing and hold on tight. That breakthrough is right around the corner!
