Be a Superhero With Extra Brainpower!
By Donna Stark
Have you given any thought to the kind of superpower you would like if you had the choice? Sometimes there are days when I spend a minute or two thinking about it. This usually happens when I forget a name, when I get stuck on a word I am trying to remember, or when I find myself standing in a room without any idea of what brought me there in the first place. And although I can't say the power I wish for is very exciting, it's the one I always fall back on. My wish is for extra brainpower.
Boost the Power of Your Brain
I can't be the only one who wishes for sharpened memory and enhanced focus ... there have to be others like me, right? And if you are one of those others, I have some great news to share. We don't have to rely on wishes! We can boost the power of our brains with some very simple changes to our lifestyle. Take a look.
Start With Breakfast
Studies show that consuming a healthy breakfast every day can improve short-term memory and attention, so don't leave the house with only a coffee in hand! And don't send your children to school without something in their belly either. It really does make a difference!
Be Sure to Exercise
Exercise gets the blood flowing, and not only does that do your heart some good, it also helps your brain perform better. Increased blood flow helps carry the oxygen and nutrients that your brain needs for optimal function.
Challenge Yourself
The more you use your brain, the stronger it becomes, so give it a challenge and try something new! Pick up a new hobby, take that French cooking class, or learn a new skill. The options are endless, so it should be quite easy to find something you like to do!
Eat Well
To achieve the brainpower you are looking for, you need to eat a healthy diet! And I'm not talking about just any kind of healthy diet. You need to eat specific foods that your brain thrives on. Start incorporating more fish (at least two servings a week), nuts, seeds, dark chocolate, whole grains, and blueberries (otherwise known as brain-berries) into your daily meals.
Becoming a Superhero
Sure, it may be cool to have the ability to fly or throw fireballs out of your hands at will, but nothing is as cool as actually remembering the name of your coworker's spouse. So keep your body and your brain healthy by making some simple changes to your lifestyle and become the superhero you always imagined yourself to be!
