When Did I Break A Rib And Not Know It?
By Tom Herrin
We all have those times when we think everything is going too good to be true. Then the next thing that happens is you get this feeling like you either just broke a rib or took a bullet in the back. Once you determine there is no blood, you decide it must be a broken rib but how did this happen? There is a good chance that there is no broken rib at all, but a dislocation of a rib that is causing that shooting pain. A trip to the chiropractor can stop that pain and get you back to feeling normal in no time at all.
What’s Really Up?
Our rib cage has a pretty good design. It encases our heart, lungs, etc., and protects them from injury. The function of the rib cage both protects and allows movement with the body. When a vertebrae slips or moves a little, it is called a subluxation. This often places undue pressure on sensitive nerves resulting in pain. In the case of ribs, this pain tends to be sharp. You may feel it every time you take a breath. It can literally make you afraid to breathe.
The Prognosis Is Good
Your chiropractor will perform a pretty thorough exam to determine exactly what has happened. You can rest assured that if there is indeed some other kind of problem, he or she will refer you accordingly. If a subluxation has occurred, your chiropractor can manipulate your spine where the vertebrae are gently moved back into place. This adjustment may provide pretty quick relief. You will be able to tell something has changed.
The Natural Treatment
A great thing about chiropractic is that you can avoid pain medications. Far too many people become addicted to pain meds. This creates dependency so that pain becomes more frequent. Your chiropractor will treat you by natural means. They have several tools that loosen your muscles and allow easier movement of joints back into place. They may also suggest exercises that can help you to strengthen your muscles allowing them to work more efficiently. The Joint Chiropractic has plans that you will really appreciate. The costs are low, even though no insurance is required. Many of their more than 370 locations nationwide are open seven days a week. They all have hours both day and evenings. Drop-ins are the way they work. Do that and you may find out your rib isn’t broken after all.
