Fewer Worries, Better Blood Pressure

By Tom Herrin

Managing health problems is not always easy.  Some issues simply won't go away without strong intervention of some kind.  Medication or other more drastic medical procedures can add to the anxiety of what already exists.  Blood pressure troubles may necessitate stronger measures as well.  On the other hand, many people may be able to completely control blood pressure by being proactive.  Without a doubt, most medical providers will suggest a change of lifestyle anytime someone first appears to have some kind of problem with their blood pressure.  The bad thing is that far too many people ignore this advice and continue to go right on doing whatever got them into trouble to begin with.  Small, but committed, changes may be all it takes to have a real impact on health.

Cut a Little Sodium From Your Diet

Many people tend to form a habit about eating that can be one of their main sources of high blood pressure.  A large amount of fast or convenience foods come packed with way too much salt.  They also often have lots of bad fats.  An easy way to make a difference without feeling as if they are starved out is to simply use less salt.  Even though sodium can be found in other things, salt is the most common place.  For those who just have to get their salt to taste, there are some pretty good substitutes, and they don't taste all that bad.  Some may have a slightly different type of taste but are still good.  I have used some of them with great results.

Let Others Share Your Stress

It is hard to actually realize how strong an impact stress can have on the body.  Worries about anything or nothing can cause sleeplessness and interfere with normal activities.  Too many people try to handle all of their stress alone.  Allowing others to help take some responsibility and make some decisions can be a great way to divide the load.  It can be quite refreshing to have someone else take care of some of the things that create worry.

Increase Awareness

If we want to continue to enjoy good health, we need to do a personal screening frequently.  Weighing regularly can help us to take steps before weight gets out of control.  Checking our blood pressure often can help us to determine if we need to make those adjustments.  For most of us, it does not take a lot.  We can do those small things as we go.  It is really the easiest way.
