How to Make Slow and Steady Health Gains
By Genevieve Cunningham
As a species, we're a little fearful of change. We like when things are routine and familiar. With that said, when we're ready to make changes in our lives, we're ready now. We want to snap our fingers and make it happen. Of course, it doesn't work that way. Lasting changes take time, and this is especially true when we're talking about our health. If you want to change our health, you have to be in it for the long haul. To get started toward positive changes and better health in your life, take a look at how you can make slow and steady progress starting now.
Eat Well
One of the absolute best things that you can do for your body is to feed it well. We are what we eat, and unfortunately for many of us, this isn't good news. We eat too much junk -- sugar, fried foods, greasy meals -- and it shows in how we feel. If you want to make progress toward better health, start by cleaning up your diet. Cut the junk, up the veggies, and you'll begin to see slow and steady progress in your health as a whole.
Move (Even When You Aren't Feeling It)
Movement works. It boosts both mental and physical health. It helps us maintain weight and blood sugar and blood pressure. Movement is necessary. But movement doesn't make all of these things happen all at once. It takes steady movement over a long period of time to really see results. If you're not currently moving on a regular basis, you have to put it into your routine. The more you move, the better you'll feel, and the better your health will be as a whole.
Be Proactive
When it comes to health, we spend way too much time waiting until the last minute. We skip the doctor until we can't stand the illness anymore. We don't go for regular checkups or yearly blood work. Part of the problem is that doctors and healthcare are expensive! But ignoring your health ends up being more costly -- both financially and with your life -- in the long run. Be proactive, and take charge of your health for better wellness as you age.
Good health isn't a race. It's about the little decisions that we make every day. Good health is about making positive choices about our wellness. Use these tips to start living a life of wellness, and you're sure to notice an improvement in the way you feel and your overall health every day.
