How to Increase Metabolism a Little Every Day
By Genevieve Cunningham
Everyone has heard of the metabolism. If you’ve ever looked into weight loss, you know that the metabolism plays a huge role. This body function is what burns energy and keeps us moving. When it’s too slow, we tend to pack on the pounds. And when it moves faster, we might feel hungry and lose weight. So should the metabolism be fast or slow? For the most part, we all want a fast metabolism … one that burns fat and keeps the body thin and fit. To get yours moving more quickly in the right direction, take a look at these tips to incorporate into everyday life.
Protein can create a full and satisfied feeling, meaning that less food is eaten at each meal or snack. But protein can also help to rev up the metabolism. It encourages muscle growth, and when the muscle grows, it requires more energy to feed them. The body will then begin to burn fat for energy, and it may become noticeable in the waistline. How can we get more protein? Along with meats, we can also reach for eggs, nuts, and dark leafy greens.
Get the Body Moving
The metabolism moves faster when more calories are burned. When calories are burned, a signal is sent that says the body requires more fuel, and thus the metabolism gets moving. And how is this done? Move that body! If you’re not already exercising, beginning a simple routine can do wonders for the body’s energy burning system. Start with walking or swimming or something equally as low impact, and work up to harder workouts such as high intensity interval training or lifting weights.
Eat Metabolism Boosting Foods
If you really want to keep the metabolism moving, it can do a lot of good to stock the kitchen full of metabolism boosting foods. Luckily for all of us, a little bit of caffeine can actually kickstart the metabolism in the morning … but make sure that it is kept to a minimum. Another great way to move the metabolism is to add some spice! Peppers -- things such as jalapeno, cayenne, or chili pepper -- can rev up the body's energy burning capability and get the metabolism moving faster than ever before.
Getting the metabolism moving is an important part of losing weight and staying fit. While everyone’s metabolism will have some sort of natural pace, paying attention and making changes on purpose can increase its speed. Use these tips to get your body burning energy and losing weight, and you’ll be feeling better than ever in no time.
