Why You Should Never Ignore Pain When Traveling
By Brandi Swieter
Summer travels are on most people’s bucket lists, with many getting to achieve their desires. Plenty of people use the summer months to take the time to travel while they can. Though it can be a fun and rewarding experience, traveling can also be hard on the body. Those who travel should never ignore any pain they feel, and for good reason.
A Cause for Further Concerns
Ignoring certain health problems now can cause further concerns down the line. What may start out as a backache could lead to muscle weakness if a person attempts to remain in bed and avoid movement for days on end because of it. Treating the initial problem can help avoid further problems from developing.
Discovering Underlying Issues
Perhaps the pain felt during travels stems from a past culprit. The stress of traveling on the body could simply make the aches from another problem come to the surface. After sitting for hours on a flight, some people believe the prolonged sitting is the reason for their pain. Instead, it may be that the person has a herniated disk they never realized was there, or a weakened spine that cannot handle it.
The Body Develops a Tolerance for Pain Medication
Some people opt for masking their pain instead of treating it. Taking Tylenol does not actually take the pain away. It simply masks it so people no longer realize it’s there. The underlying condition or reason for the pain is still present and the pain will only continue. Taking too many pain pills will just lead to the body developing a tolerance for it. Eventually, it will stop working, leaving people to deal with the pain anyways. It’s far better to have the sight of pain examined and find the true reason for it so it can be handled properly and prevented in the future if possible.
Travelers should always seek immediate attention if they feel serious aches and pains during or after their vacations. A visit to one of the many Joint Chiropractic locations at the getaway destination or once home will do some good; there are more than 400 clinics nationwide. The doctor of chiropractic can help pinpoint the cause of the pain and discover some ways to alleviate it. Seeing your primary doctor after the trip will also help to ensure the true cause was discovered and the appropriate measures are being taken for treatment.
