Problems Sleeping? This Might Be the Cause

By Sara Butler

Sleep is essential. If you don't get enough of it, it can really ruin your day -- as well as your health! It's such a big part of your life, that you'll end up spending one-third of your life getting shut-eye. So when there are problems in the sleep department, it can really wreak havoc on your life.

Problems sleeping aren't uncommon. Many people struggle to get a full night of quality rest. If you're sleeping poorly, then you really need to try to understand why. Here are some of the biggest culprits keeping people up at night.

Screen Time

Screen time is mostly talked about in children, but it can be a big problem for adults too -- especially if you are on screens too close to bedtime.

Electronics emit something called blue light, which makes it difficult to go to sleep. The best thing you can do is cut out all screens about an hour before you plan to go to sleep. If that's not going to work for you, then see if your devices have a setting that can be turned out for yellow light instead.

No Sleep Routine

Again, you mostly hear about sleep routines in reference to kids, but adults need them, too! A good sleep routine will help get your body ready for rest, so you should endeavor to abide by a few good sleep routine rules. Go to bed about the same time every night and wake up around the same time each day. It's also a good idea to do something relaxing before bed, such as gentle stretches or reading a book to help your mind calm down.

Your Mattress is Problematic

Mattresses are a big purchase, which is why many people tend to put off getting a new one until it starts to impact their sleep. About every eight years you should be getting a mattress so you don't end up with a fitful night's sleep and wake up with a sore back. A mattress has to support your body properly.

Caffeine Too Close to Bed

Having a hot cup of tea in the evening may sound nice, but be careful what kind of tea is in your cup! Tea and other drinks that contain caffeine can wreak havoc on your sleep schedule and make it really tough to fall asleep.

Sleep is vital to your health and wellness, so try to understand why you're not getting good sleep and fix it!
