It's Not Just Weight: 3 Other Benefits of Exercise
By Genevieve Cunningham
So much of exercise motivation is based solely on weight. We want to look better or wear a smaller pant size. Many times, the weight loss goal is a good one and can lead to better health. But it's not the only reason to exercise. In fact, there are plenty of reasons to break a sweat that have nothing to do with weight at all. If you need some exercise motivation that actually takes your mind off of your weight, take a look at these three great reasons to get moving.
Exercise can lead to more energy. At first, you may actually feel more tired. After all, you'll be expending more energy and your body won't be used to it. But as you get used to the movement and extra calorie burn, you may find that more energy just becomes a part of your life. If you lack energy on a regular basis, adding exercise into your life may be just what you need.
Do you ever have trouble sleeping? Of course you do! We all do! If this is you, exercise may be the answer. Those who exercise spend their energy, tire their body, and have healthier habits overall. Many find that the more regular their exercise, the more regular their sleep. And with more sleep comes more energy. If you're tired of being tired all the time, add some exercise into your routine, give it a little time, and wait for the sleep to take you over and give you some much needed rest.
Even if we never actually lose any weight, exercise can help build confidence. We feel more capable. Our muscles get stronger and tighter. We feel more balanced. Though not everyone struggles with self-esteem, most of us could stand for a bit more confidence in our bodies and general appearance. Start an exercise program, and trust that you'll be feeling better in your own skin in no time at all.
If you want to exercise to lose weight, go for it. There's nothing wrong with wanting to look and feel better in your own skin. But if you want to exercise for other reasons, that's great too. There are so many good reasons to work out. Find the motivation that works for you, get moving, and enjoy the better health that quickly comes along.
