Make Your Chiropractic Adjustment Last
By Sara Butler
After you leave the chiropractor’s office you probably feel like a million bucks. Something about those adjustments makes you feel good, so how can you make the feeling last? Well, there are simple things you may be doing that throw your body out of alignment. One of the most common is the type of shoe you wear. Here is one big suggestion you should follow to try to keep your body in alignment long after you leave your chiropractor’s office.
It Starts with Your Shoes
Your feet are the foundation for your whole body, and if they aren’t supported right they can throw the whole thing off. Two very popular types of shoes for ladies may be the culprit behind not only foot pain and back pain, but more frequent visits to the chiropractor as well, and they are high heels and ballet flats.
High Heels
High heels are the type of shoe you can look at and they just look uncomfortable. High heels can be dangerous to your alignment because of the way they cause your center of gravity to change. They throw your whole body forward and place pressure on the balls of your feet. This has a domino effect that moves up your legs into your spine, causing your hips to tilt in order to compensate, throwing off the natural curvature of the spine. If you enjoy wearing high heels just know that the lower the heel, the better off you and your back will be, and the less frequently you will need to see your chiropractor.
Ballet Flats
This one might surprise you a little bit since most people view this type of shoe as relatively harmless. They are not harmless because they offer zero support to your feet and your back. The lack of support these shoes provide put a lot of stress and strain on your lower back and other joints. They can cause tightening of the tendons, too, if they don’t fit your feet right since you have to strain when you walk in order to keep them on your feet. And if they’re too small they can cause pain in your toes which can lead to problems in your ankles, knees, lower back, and hips.
Tennis Shoes are a Winner
If you want to help support the natural alignment of your spine and the work of your chiropractor, then tennis shoes that offer a lot of support are your best bet. As much as your chiropractor at The Joint Chiropractic loves to see your smiling face, they also want to encourage your health and happiness, which means choosing appropriate footwear that is supportive and will cause you fewer problems in the future.
