On Your Feet All Day? Tips to Manage Pain

By Sara Butler

While sitting has become a bit of an epidemic among many people due to the amount of time they spend sitting down for their job, there are just as many people who spend their working days on their feet. If you're one of these people, then you understand just how challenging standing on your feet all day can be. Here are some tips from the chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic to help you stay pain-free while on your feet for hours each day.

Exercise

The last thing you may want to do when you are done with work is exercise, but it's exactly what you should do. Your body will feel better if you're fitter -- and your muscles will be stronger too, helping you not to feel as fatigued all day.

You can do a few stretches when you get home and when you're at work to help stave off aches and pains, too. You can fold yourself forward at the waist and reach toward your toes to stretch while at work. Then, when you get home, lay on the floor and straighten your legs up to the wall. Doing this for just a few minutes can help you stretch and feel better.

Wear the Right Gear

When you work on your feet all day a good pair of supportive shoes is a must. If your job requires you to stand or walk for hours without being able to rest, then you need to have shoes that are the right size, fit comfortably, and offer proper support and shock absorption. You can also add some compression socks or pantyhose into the equation to help prevent blood from pooling in your legs and causing discomfort.

Take the Pressure Off

For jobs that require you to stand for hours at a time, constant pressure is put on your feet, legs, and back. If you can, getting an anti-fatigue mat may help to cushion hard surfaces and take some of the pressure off. This can help you to stand for longer without the pain.

If you spend hours on your feet for work each day, then you need to see a chiropractor at The Joint. They can help you stay healthy even with the demands your career puts on your body each day, helping you to be more productive at work and feel better when you're not at work too!
