Are You Mentally Rested? Tips for Making It Happen

By Genevieve Cunningham

We live in an exhausting world. It seems that today's world demands productivity and a faster pace like never before. Long gone are slow days and work-life balance. Now it's work, work, work or get left behind. If you feel that this is an accurate description of your life, you're not alone. But the most unfortunate part about our modern world is that this fast pace, high stress way of living is killing us! What can we do? While there are many ways to cope with the state of the world, one of your best options is to stay mentally rested. If you need mental rest in order to stay on top of your game, take a look at these tips to make it happen.

Use Your Days Off

Stop giving other people all your time. We're given days off because we need them. Don't waste them away by giving them back to work. Do you know how many days are wasted by the American people? How many days off or vacation days are skipped? Far too many! If you want to stay healthy, you need to use your days off -- even if all you do is sleep in and lie around on the couch all day. You may be surprised at the impact this has on your mental state and long-term wellness.

Get Undistracted Sleep

Even if you're getting enough sleep, you may not be well rested unless it's high quality sleep. If the TV is blaring in the background or there are lights shining in your face, it's possible that your mind is never really shutting down adequately and getting rest. Instead, you sleep in a light state, and this can lead to excessive exhaustion. If you want to be mentally rested, start with getting high quality physical rest, and the rest may follow effortlessly.

Surround Yourself With Uplifting People

It's completely possible that your friends are having a negative effect on your mental wellness. Why? Because people who are negative, cause high stress situations, or are extremely high maintenance are exhausting! If you have people who completely drain you mentally, you may need to cut back on their presence. Don't harm your own health just because you feel obligated to others. Be obligated to yourself and your health, and if others suffer, remember that you're not responsible for their healing or their happiness.

It's important to rest the body, but maybe even more important to rest the mind. If the mind becomes exhausted, your entire life and well-being will suffer. Use these tips to get more mental rest, and enjoy the natural boost in health -- both mental and physical -- that will likely come with it.
