Why Almonds Should Be a Go-To Snack
By Genevieve Cunningham
Choosing a healthy snack is sometimes more difficult than it seems. While we have every intention of grabbing something low-fat and low calorie, our rumbling stomachs have other plans. Before we know it, we’ve devoured a sweet or salty treat that satisfies the tastebuds but leaves us in a bit of a deficit in our healthy menu. If this sounds like you, almonds may be the perfect snack to add to the mix. Take a look at these reasons why almonds are the perfect go-to healthy snack to satisfy your hunger and still keep you on track.
You can buy almonds in a big bag or already separated into portions in individual bags. You can buy whole almonds, halved, or cut in tiny little slivers. All you have to do is open the cabinet, grab the bag, and eat. The only extra step will be measuring out a proper portion if you buy almonds in bulk. For anyone on the go, it doesn’t get any easier.
They’re Protein Packed
Almonds, and many other nuts for that matter, have heaps of protein, especially in relation to their small size. Protein helps satisfy hunger, build muscles, and boost metabolism. Eating a handful of almonds is an easy way to up your protein and boost your health with very little thought or effort.
They’re Relatively Low Calorie
If you eat too many, you’ll obviously go over your calorie cap, but this is true of pretty much any food. But if you eat the proper portion size, you’ll get a low calorie snack that contains just enough healthy fats to boost your diet. Just be cautious and plan ahead so that you don't eat too many, and you’re good to go.
Do you have a sweet tooth? You can buy almonds that have been slightly doused in cinnamon and sugar. Are you more of a salty snacker? You can buy roasted almonds covered in sea salt. Whatever your guilty pleasure, you can probably find almonds that hit the spot. Just remember that almonds covered in extras might have a few extra calories.
If you need something quick, easy, and healthy, almonds are an excellent choice. They’ll most likely fit in your diet, give you plenty of healthy nutrients, and leave you feeling guilt-free. If you haven’t added them to your regular menu, today’s the day to add this healthy snack for good.
