How to Exercise Effectively in Your Own Home
By Genevieve Cunningham
Sometimes the hardest part about getting fit is the process from the bed to the gym. Not only does it require you to get up from the comfort of sleep and make a trip across town, but a gym costs money, can be intimidating, and just isn’t always convenient to your schedule. Because of this conflict, many people use the lack of ease in getting to the gym as an excuse for being unhealthy. If this sounds a little too much like you, there is good news ahead. Getting fit can be done in the comfort of your own home. Take a look at these tips for working out effectively without ever walking through your front door.
Use Compound Movements
A compound movement is one that engages multiple muscle groups, but it’s one fluid movement, which maximizes both your time and your cardio. These might include moves such as a squat with front arm raises or even deadlifts, which happen to work almost every muscle group in your body. Google a list of compound exercises, make a list of your own, and develop a plan of action. The more compound movements you can include into your normal workout, the more of your body you’ll be able to work in less time and space.
Learn Excellent Form
Many people undervalue the importance of good form. The truth is that, in many cases, one movement done with top notch form is better for your body than 10 movements done with sloppy form. If you’re working out at home, focus a lot of your attention on getting that form just right. You’ll be able to maximize your workout and your results just by doing each move correctly every time.
Be Consistent
Absolutely nothing beats consistency. If you want to lose weight, get fit, gain muscle mass, lose fat … consistency is key! Once you make a plan, you have to stick to it. Exercise a little bit every day, and don’t let laziness or lack of motivation get in your way. You’ll probably be surprised at how much of a difference persistence makes in your fitness journey.
We all lead incredibly busy lives. It’s a world of go-go-go, and most of us are in the thick of it! But luckily, getting in shape doesn’t have to mean hours at the gym or a super strict schedule that leaves little room for other aspects of life. You can get in great shape at home, as long as you know how to make each workout effective. Use these tips to give you a head start, and enjoy the new body and positivity that comes along with it.
