How Daily Journaling Can Help Ease Stress
By Brandi Swieter
“Dear Diary” is a phrase many women are familiar with, especially if they kept one of their own growing up. The pastime doesn’t just have to be for teens, though. It should be used by anyone who wants to de-estress and jot down their thoughts regularly so they aren’t stuck weighing on people’s minds forever. Daily journaling can work wonders to ease stress for men and women of any age.
Recognize Triggers
Writing down symptoms experienced each day is a great way for people to learn how to recognize their triggers. If someone sees that they routinely feel upset, get a headache, or even feel sick after particular incidents, they can develop a plan of action and avoid those triggers. The symptoms will decrease once following through with that plan.
Prioritize Problems
Many people believe they have far too much on their plates to handle it all. Rather than focusing on every task at once, journaling can help people prioritize their problems. They can reread what they wrote down and recognize that certain tasks can get left for later. Only the most concerning tasks need to get done right away. Realizing this helps people eliminate some of the stress they’ve been feeling over their abundance of scheduled activities to get done.
Identify Negative Thoughts
People are always going to feel stressed with negative thoughts running through their minds on a daily basis. Writing these feelings down can help people to identify which are damaging. Once bad thoughts get recognized, people can start to turn their minds around to the positives. It is better to write down encouraging ideas instead so that those start to become the focus and there is less stress placed on a person from all the unfavorable energy being put into existence.
Time for Relaxing
Not only is what a person writes beneficial, but simply taking the time to write at all. Whether someone spends just a few minutes each day jotting down a few thoughts or takes a half-hour longer to write their innermost desires, it means time spent relaxing and not focusing on anything else. That is a great way in itself to de-stress and unwind from the day.
Daily journaling allows both men and women to get things off their minds and cope with life. It offers a helpful way to ease stress and hopefully eliminate problem areas that trigger anxiety attacks and upset. Those who start to feel the weight of the stress in their neck, shoulders, and back should see a chiropractor at The Joint Chiropractic to alleviate the pain and anxieties of daily life even further.
