How to Lose Weight After the Holidays
By Genevieve Cunningham
The holidays are a time when we all indulge just a little too much. We splurge on the sweets. We skip our workouts. And as a result, we tend to put on a few pounds. While this isn’t a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, many people are eager to drop those extra pounds once the holidays are over. If you’re looking for a few tips to get the job done, take a look at these important ideas to keep in mind.
Get Back to Basics
There’s no need to resort to crazy diet fads in order to lose holiday weight. Instead, just get back to the basics and have some patience. Cut back on your carbs and up your protein. Skip the sodas and sugars and get back to water and vegetables. You don’t have to eat only grapefruits or take any crazy supplements. You just have to get back to consistency, and the holiday weight will drop with time.
Drink More Water
Now is a great time to drink more water than ever. The holidays are filled with teas, coffee, hot cocoa, eggnog, and other delicious treats. Water can help replenish your body, flush out excess toxins, and give you more energy. Start your day with a big glass, and then carry a water bottle around for the remainder of the day. The water will help you lose weight, but it will also help you feel better than ever after weeks of overindulgence.
Most people tend to overdo the alcohol just a tad over the holidays. Once the holidays are over, give it a rest. Bottle it up and keep it out of view. Going alcohol-free for awhile will help your body recover. You may be able to rehydrate, lose a few pounds, and clear your skin, digestion, and your mind. You don’t have to give it up for good, but a brief detox from it will be a good idea. And once your detox is over, you can go back to enjoying your favorite drink in moderation.
Losing weight after the holidays should be done at a slow and steady pace, just like it would be at any other time of year. Use these tips to give you a headstart. With some patience and diligence, you’ll be able to drop those pounds and get back to the body you’ve been working toward before you know it.
