Eliminating Illness: Here's What You Need to Know

By Genevieve Cunningham

Suffering from illness is one of the most frustrating feelings. On top of not feeling well, you also have to miss work, miss out on fun, and yet still fulfill family obligations. It's not fun. It feels so much better to simply skip the illness altogether. But is that even possible? If you are interested in eliminating as much illness as possible from your life, take a look at what you need to know to stay well and feel your best moving forward.

You Can't Avoid It All

It's important to remember that you can't avoid all illness. Sure, we'd all love to skip runny noses and headaches and fevers, but it's not possible. Even if you do everything right and make every effort to stay well, you're still going to come across germs. You're still going to get sick from time to time. Don't get discouraged if you get sick. Don't give up your plans for prevention. Just do what it takes to get well, and then get back on your healthcare plan to encourage better health moving forward.

Prevention is Best

While you can't avoid all illness, you should still make every effort to prevent it. There's absolutely no doubt that prevention is the best medicine. Make sure you're wiping down surfaces, washing your hands, avoiding ill people, and eating a well-balanced diet. These aren't foolproof methods for staying well, but they'll certainly give you the best chance at avoiding germs and keeping your immune system strong for less illness overall.

Treatment is Necessary

If you do find yourself sick, don't wait it out. If you need a doctor, go. If you need a rest day, take it. Pushing through an illness will only keep you sicker longer. Treating yourself -- whether that's with medication, chicken soup, or just a little extra rest -- is crucial for getting your body well and maintaining better health as you move forward in your daily life.

Illness is bad for your body, mind, and general well-being. It fatigues you, weakens you, and makes you feel far less than your best. While all illness can't and won't be avoided, you can definitely give yourself a fighting chance. Use these tips to manage your health and feel better than ever moving forward.
