Now that summer has finally arrived, many are ready to enjoy vacations. Planning these getaways has most likely already begun. When scheduling the various summer events and activities for the family to take part, it is important to keep in mind the need to protect everyone from the damage the sun can do. Sure, a little sun can be good for the body. It does provide Vitamin D. However, too much exposure can do more damage than benefits it may offer. A few tips to follow when looking for some summer fun include:

  • Always use sunscreen
  • Carry a water bottle
  • Keep a hat handy

Always Use Sunscreen

Many people think sun is only a problem when it is hot outside. This is not the case. Sun can be a problem any time of the year and in almost any type of weather. It is important to protect yourself and your kids from too much sun exposure. Wearing sunscreen every day can help to prevent damage that may show up later in life. Try making the application of sunscreen part of your morning routine. Consider reapplying it at lunchtime, and always keep a bottle in your bag.

Carry a Water Bottle

In the summer months it is imperative to stay hydrated. This is done best when water accompanies people everywhere. Whether you choose to invest in a water bottle, cup, or just use plastic bottles that can be recycled, always try to have one with you. Any of them can easily be refilled. Drinking enough water can be the secret to beating the heat this summer. Keep in mind: The longer you are outside, the more water you need. Try to drink the minimum daily recommendation of water. This is at least eight 8 oz cups of water.

Keep a Hat Handy

Heat can take its toll on a person's energy level. The sun can cause burns quickly in the scorching heat. Always keep a hat handy. This can help prevent burn on the face and scalp, as well as help to protect the eyes from some sun damage. The eyes need protection just like the skin. Choosing a hat that suits your style and needs may seem difficult at first, but with wide varieties available, you are certain to find one to meet your needs.
