Never Be Sparing With Sunlight for Health
By Tom Herrin
There are lots of things that we know are necessary for our health. Exercise and a healthy diet are always on the list. Something else that we need a pretty good helping of is sunlight. We get quite a bit in spring and summer but may slack off somewhat once we get into a season when the days are shorter. This natural tendency to sort of hibernate may sound good, but it isn't going to do much for health. Sunlight is necessary if we want to keep our health in the best possible shape.
The Sun May Help Us Sleep
When we spend time in the sun, we may end up adjusting our internal clocks to the sun. Once we begin to wake up when the sun rises and go to bed when it sets, our bodies may get into a better schedule. Some of this is due to the fact that the sun can make our body stop making melatonin. This wakes us up. When the sun goes down, we begin making melatonin again. This helps us to sleep.
The Sun May Put Us in a Good Mood
There may have been times in which you have noticed getting a little down when the days are shorter or the skies are gray. This is pretty common as many people suffer from this problem. It is easily treated by getting a steady dose of sunlight each day. I have this issue and have to be aware of it, or I will find myself really unproductive. When I make a point to include more sunlight regularly, I find that I feel much better.
Adding Sunlight Is Easy
Of all the kinds of things we may do to boost our health, adding sunlight is probably the simplest. There is no cost, and you will find the sun right outside. You may fix it by opening the windows or by taking a short walk. It doesn't take much to resolve the issue. The sun can also boost our immunities. Some of it is through the available Vitamin D. This vitamin seems to have the ability to fight several cancers including those of the colon, pancreas, and lungs along with a few others. Making the sun a regular part of our day is a sure way to support our health.
