Some Bread Is Healthier for Us Than Others
By Tom Herrin
Concern about doing what is healthiest for us can be a little contagious. Once we begin looking to improve ourselves overall, we often find that there is just a bit more that we can do. Besides rest and exercise, what we eat can obviously play a big part. Every small thing to which we pay attention may pay some great dividends in the long run. As far as food is concerned, bread can have a large role.
Even though it has long been an important part of the diet for many humans, changes to bread in the last hundred years or so have had a major impact on health. After the mass production on white bread seemed to contribute to an increase in the instances of colon cancer, many people paid much more attention to bread. It can do some other things as well, and there are some good products available today.
Oat Bread Is a Good Product
Even though most of us are aware that oats are known to be one of the best grains we can eat for help in managing cholesterol, many people shy away from the thought of eating it. Some of this is due to its reputation for being rather bland. I personally like oats and eat them for breakfast quite often. In bread, it can still be a healthy and flavorful product. Oat bread has that same healthy fiber that is so good for us. It also can be really high in protein as compared to other types of bread.
Rye Bread Is a Little Different
If you have never tried rye bread, you have missed out on a type of bread that can have some useful functions. It is not for all occasions, but it sure fits in well in some. In our home, we got hooked on rye bread when we tried it with certain meats as a sandwich. It can really set off certain kinds of meats as well as many kinds of spreads. It is generally a full-bodied type of bread. It can be low in sugar with not too many calories.
Bread Should Taste Good and Be Healthy
When we search for the best bread for us, it is important for it to be healthy. It is also critical for it to have a flavor that we enjoy. Who wants to eat any kind of food that doesn't taste good? We can have the best of both with bread. Let's do everything we can to enhance our health. Choosing healthy bread can provide the best of both, so go for it.
