Too Busy to Work on Your Health? Try These Tips
By Paul Rothbart
For many people these days, life moves at a hectic pace. They work long hours trying to get ahead and may even have a second job. In addition to work, there's caring for a family and taking care of a home, leaving very little time left for other things. Some of those other things are very important. Perhaps the most essential is caring for your health. No matter how busy you are, you must find the time to care for your mind and body. If you get sick, you won't be doing anything. Here are some tips to help you fit healthcare into your busy schedule.
Exercise in Small Doses
One of the most important aspects of good health is regular exercise. You don't have to go to a gym or run marathons. You can get a good workout walking around the parking lot of your job or even the corridors. Getting in a 30-minute walk every day will be very beneficial to your health. If you don't have a spare 30 minutes, you can break it up. Take three 10-minute walks during your breaks or lunch. It will have the same effect as doing it all at once. By breaking it up, you will still have longer stretches of time for the tasks on your to-do list.
Make Meals Ahead of Time
Many busy people skip breakfast and sometimes lunch or buy fast food for its convenience. These are practices that can harm your health. Take time on the weekend, such as a Sunday afternoon, and prepare healthy breakfasts and lunches that you can refrigerate or freeze and take with you. Thawing food does not take long. Smoothies and wraps can be very healthy and can be eaten on the go. They won't slow you down but you will be getting the nutrition you need to stay in good health.
Don't Neglect Mental Health
Your mind is every bit as important as your body and must be cared for. No matter how busy you get, it is essential to make time to relax and enjoy hobbies. Stay connected to family and friends, even if through video chats and emails. Socializing causes the production of the feel-good hormones dopamine and serotonin. These help ward off depression and anxiety. Work is important, no question, but so is balance. Long hours with no breaks can deteriorate your mental and physical health.
In today's world, people seem to be busier than ever. No matter how much you have on your plate, find those little bits of time each day to care for yourself. What good are accomplishments if you are too sick to enjoy them?
