4 Methods to Fix Your Workout Madness
By Virginia Laird
Exercise is one of the best stress relievers but it accomplishes more than that. Making certain you are approaching your workout with correct techniques and helpful routines is vital. It is easy to get stuck attending the same classes and using the same old machines, weights etc., but it is important to make sure you are getting the most out of your workout. This may require a bit of trial and error applying other techniques and methods. A few things you should make certain you are doing include:
- Be sure to warm up
- Try strength training first
- Make sure to have fun
- Don't change it up too much
Be Sure to Warm Up
Are you someone who likes to jump into your workout headfirst? If so, you may be missing an important step of the exercise process. Warming up plays a role in preparing the body for exhausting and strenuous activity. Stop skipping the warm-up and opt for a short stretching routine and brief (five-minute) cardio warm-up to help your heart be ready for a more intense vibe.
Try Strength Training First
For years trainers stressed cardio first, then the strength training. Some research now suggests that it can be worthwhile to switch to strength training first. This does not mean skipping the light cardio that may accompany a warm-up. However, exhausting yourself before lifting weight can hamper the results, slowing the body's ability to grow in strength.
Make Sure to Have Fun
Always strive to have fun. This can be working out with friends, trying new classes, or sticking to tried and true exercises you love. If you are not enjoying your time at the gym, odds are not in your favor that you will want to return. You may find yourself making excuses to stay home or may find alternative activities when you are not enjoying your time at the gym.
Don't Change It Up Too Much
Trying out new exercises and classes at the gym can be fun and exciting. However, changing your program entirely without finishing the previous one can hamper your results. Once you decide on a program, stick to it. Completing a program is the only way to truly track results. Feel free to try some new classes or exercises along the way, but stay the course of the program. You will be glad you did.
