3 Ways Your Body Shows Fitness Progress
By Genevieve Cunningham
When it comes to working out and getting fit, most of us are looking for the ultimate prize. Weight loss. We want to drop 10 or 20 pounds, and then we’ll feel successful! But working out can do so much more than cause you to lose weight, and many of these other side effects are great indicators of success. To keep your eyes off of the scale but still on the prize, take a look at these three signs that your body is changing for the better.
Better Endurance
Maybe before you started working out, you couldn’t make it up the stairs without a break. Or maybe you could only go for 10 minutes per workout. After a while, your endurance will get better and these kinds of problems will change. Making it up the stairs will be a breeze and you may be able to work out for 30 minutes without stopping. Better endurance helps with exercise, but it also makes a difference in everyday life. This is a great indicator that your workouts are working and you should definitely keep going.
Trimmed Inches
Even if you don’t lose weight, it’s possible that you’re still losing inches around various parts of your body. Take measurements. After you’ve been working out for a few weeks, measure again. The waist, hips, legs, and arms are all great places to see if you’ve trimmed down. This may also make your clothes looser, which will be noticeable in everyday life.
More Energy
Most people don’t have enough energy. They barely have enough energy to make it through the day, and they certainly don't have enough energy to thrive. They go through everyday life exhausted, and they come to think of this as normal. But exercise helps you use energy more efficiently, and it can also give you more. This means that waking up is easier, getting through the day is easier, and you may also notice more focus and attention as a much needed result.
If you’re working out and trying to improve your basic fitness, seeing positive results is huge. It can keep you motivated and moving forward. Luckily, progress doesn’t always mean weight loss! Use these other measurements for success, and you’ll probably notice that your health is improving faster than you thought and making you feel better than ever before.
