Why It's OK to Give Yourself the Night Off

We're all so busy in the world today. It's almost as if society demands our full attention, morning, noon, and night. We wake up early for work, spend all day at the office, and then come home to fulfill a thousand other obligations. It's exhausting, and it's showing up in our health. But do we actually have to live this way? Or are we simply conditioned to accept it? If you're one who tends to burn the candle at both ends, take a look at these reasons why it's perfectly fine to give yourself the night off to relax. 

Rest Resets the Body and Mind

Rest is when we recuperate. If you're taking a break from exercise, then this will allow the body to reset. If you're taking the night off from work or other responsibilities, then this will allow your mind to reset. And the truth is that we all need a moment to reset. We need time to adjust and change and recharge. If you're feeling overwhelmed, either physically or mentally, then a night off may be just what you need. 

Rest Helps Muscles Grow

If you need a night off from working out, you may be doing your body a lot of good, especially if you're trying to grow muscles. Many people believe that muscles grow when we lift, but that's not true. Muscles actually rip when we lift. When we rest, the muscles repair themselves, which is what makes them appear bigger. When you understand the way muscles work, you quickly realize that rest is actually a crucial part of the process. So relax for a minute and take the night off guilt-free. 

You Don't Have to Be Perfect

Here's the thing: You don't have to be, nor should you be, perfect in any aspect of life. Take the night off just because you want to. Take it off because you deserve some time to yourself. You don't need permission to do what's best for you. Trust your intuition. If you need some time to breathe and relax and just be with yourself, take the time you need and stop worrying about the need to be so perfect. 

It's absolutely OK to take the night off once in a while. Sure, you have obligations and things to do. But it's OK to skip out sometimes. Do what's best for you! When you're feeling overwhelmed, schedule yourself a night off, and reap the benefits that come with a little rest from life.
