How to Get Obsessed With Health and Fitness
By Genevieve Cunningham
Getting healthy and fit takes a lot of work and dedication. As we get older, it seems like this task gets harder and harder. When we're young, all we have to do is go for a run or stop eating dessert for a week, and suddenly we're back to goal weight. But as the years go by, these little tricks no longer work. We have to become fully obsessed with health and fitness. Does that mean spend all your time eating veggies and visiting the gym? Not at all! But it does mean incorporating healthy habits into your everyday life. If you're ready to gain a healthy obsession with your wellness, take a look at these ways to learn to love the health and fitness world.
Find Something Fun
If you dread working out, you're never going to love your health. Movement should feel good, and feeling good should be one of the biggest reasons you work out at all. In order to end the dread, you have to find something fun. You have to find movement that you actually enjoy. You have to find an exercise or a class or a routine that makes you feel excited. Is this easy? If you're lucky, you might find something enjoyable fairly quickly into your search. But it may also take some time and plenty of trial and error. The most important part? Don't give up! Stick with your search until you find movement that makes both body and mind feel good.
Celebrate Small Successes
One of the biggest mistakes that we make in our quest for better health is making goals that are just too big. If you need to lose 50 pounds, that's fine, but you're not going to drop all of that weight at once. If you want to love the journey, you have to love yourself along the way. Did you drop two pounds? Celebrate the victory. Did you work out four times this week? Celebrate. Did you avoid the scale? Celebrate. If we celebrate the small victories along the way, it allows us to feel successful. And when we put in work and feel the success at the end, we're far more likely to enjoy it and to stick with it long-term.
Though we often give the word obsession a bad name, there is such a thing as healthy obsession -- especially when it comes to your health. We have to become obsessed with feeling good in our own skin. We have to become obsessed with maintaining good health and in the process of improving our bodies and minds. Use these tips to find your own healthy obsession, and enjoy the better health that comes with your newfound passion and long-term dedication to your own wellness.
