Standing All Day? 4 Tips to Ease Back Pain

By  Virginia Laird

Many jobs require people to stand all day long, causing those employees to notice slight back pain. Although the job may be an enjoyable one, the pain that can accompany it is far from welcome. There are a few things that a person can do to help ease the pain caused by standing all day. Some things to consider include:

  • Wear comfy shoes
  • Take breaks
  • Stretch your back regularly
  • Visit a chiropractor routinely

Wear Comfy Shoes

One of the most important things a person can do is to take care of his or her feet. Anytime the feet hurt, it can affect the entire body both mentally and physically. Don't be afraid to invest in comfy shoes. This is an area where skimping on cost and only shopping for a deal can be harmful. Although comfy shoes do not have to cost a great deal, do not choose a pair of shoes based solely on price. Chiropractors suggest choosing a pair that is comfy and does not impede the natural stride, as this can increase the chances of developing back pain.

Take Breaks

Chiropractors suggest taking breaks frequently when work requires a person to be on his or her feet all day. During these breaks, be sure to get off your feet.  Forgetting to rest the feet can prevent a person from being able to make it all day.

Stretch Your Back Regularly

Adding stretches before bed or in the mornings can do a great deal of good for the back. Chiropractors suggest a routine of stretching can help to decrease back pain and prevent it in the future. Another time stretching can help is during breaks at work. This can help reduce the stress and pain. Stretching does not have to be difficult enough to need a yoga mat. Simple stretches can do the trick. Your chiropractor can offer specific stretches that can target specific areas as needed.

Visit a Chiropractor Routinely

The best way to manage back pain is to add routine chiropractic visits to your life. Chiropractors can restore function to the spine. Using small adjustments, tension and stress on the spine may also be released. It is important to note that you and your chiropractor will work together to identify a plan that is tailored to you.
