Chiropractic Care for College Students

By Paul Rothbart

College can be an exciting and fun experience. Many students are living away from home for the first time, just starting to experience the freedom and responsibility of adulthood. You get to meet new people, try new activities, and perhaps explore a new city. Then there's the education which occurs both inside and outside the classroom. But college is not just one big party. It can be stressful trying to keep your grades up. You may have to work a part-time job to help pay tuition and other expenses. It can take a toll on your health. Seeing a chiropractor may help.

Managing Back and Joint Pain

College classes require books, some of which are heavy. Fill a backpack with several and you are carrying quite a load all over campus. Then there is a laptop and other supplies. If you are involved in sports, band, or other activities, you may have more stuff to carry. All of this can strain your back and joints causing discomfort and pain. A chiropractor can find any subluxations or problems you may have in your back and joints and adjust them. This can relieve pain and keep you active and ready for your next class.

Sleep

Sleep is important for everyone but a college student can always use more. Attending classes, studying, and working on projects expends considerable mental and even physical energy. If you're not sleeping well, you won't be at your best and could even fall ill. Many chiropractic patients find that they sleep better when making regular visits. With reduced pain, they are better able to get comfortable enough to fall and stay asleep. Better sleep leads to better health and better academic performance.

Stress Management

Stress is often a close companion of a college student. You have papers due, a midterm exam coming up, you may have to maintain a GPA to keep a scholarship. That is quite a recipe for stress and it can make it harder to focus. Another benefit that some chiropractic patients experience is a better ability to manage stress. If the stress of physical pain is reduced and you are sleeping better, your overall anxiety is usually less. Feeling better about your health gives you one less thing to worry about and can help you focus on your coursework.

College can be thrilling and a little scary, like a roller coaster. You need all the help you can get. Consider a visit to The Joint Chiropractic. You don't need an appointment. You may find that seeing a chiropractor keeps you feeling good and gives you that extra edge to get to the top of the class.
