Like the weather, just about everyone talks about becoming more active and getting in better shape, but that is as far as it goes for a lot of people.  Getting in better shape does not have to be all that heavy duty. There are plenty of things people can do that can be anywhere from simple and casual to much more complex and intense.  Skipping rope is something that most people can do, even if they don’t think so. There are actually many more benefits than people often realize with such an activity, and they can participate at just about whatever pace they desire.

It Can Be Good for Feet and Ankles

Even though it may seem different, jumping rope can help to prevent injuries to the feet and ankles.  Unlike many other activities in which there may be considerable planting and turning, skipping rope is a relatively steady activity that can provide a pretty good workout of those lower parts.  The pace should not be changing mid-activity the way so many other things do. People should be training themselves to stay on the balls of their feet rather than hitting flat-footed as they may do in many other things.

Many people today are concerned about bone density.  With the amount of problems so many people experience with bone density issues, it is increasingly important for people to seek activity that can help in this area.  It is a known fact that jumping can strengthen bones. This steady pace can be just the thing to provde a major boost for those who may otherwise be likely to experience such bone problems.

Jumping rope is one activity that can show great promise for those who want to burn calories.  Even though it is wise for people to begin at a slower pace, you can ramp this up as much as you want.  In heavier paced rope skipping, it is thought that people can burn as many as 1,300 calories per hour. That is almost unheard of.  It is a great aerobic exercise that can be used to build endurance and help the oxygen supply to the body. The great thing is that all you have to do is pick up a decent rope and begin exercising all by yourself.  You can do it in the privacy of your own home in front of the television if you want to.
