Starting Off Strong With New Year's Resolutions

By Brandi Swieter

The new year is all about the new you, or so they say. Many people make resolutions and set a goal in their mind of how they’ll achieve greatness in the coming months. While the intentions are pure, not everyone stays diligent in making sure these goals actually get met. With some tips in mind, people can start off strong with their New Year’s resolutions and have the tools it takes to follow through until the year’s end.

Share the Resolution

Social media is great for sharing things with others, and that includes resolutions. Posting about a resolution -- maybe you want to kick a bad habit -- can help make a person more accountable, as they want to continue to show their list of friends that they’ve stuck to what they said they would. It’s also ideal to talk about it in person with friends and family. There may be someone else in the same boat, and the two can share experiences.

Set Goals That Mean Something

Millions of people make the resolution to lose weight, but only a select few will actually accomplish that goal. People need to set an objective that means something to their life. Losing weight might not be the right thing for some. Instead, it should be to get healthy for your family or lose enough weight that you’ll no longer suffer from knee pain. Setting a goal that means something to a person’s life will help ensure it’s something they’ll want to follow through with and will stay motivated by in the long-run.

Create a Step-By-Step Solution

Plenty of people say they have this or that resolution on New Year’s Eve or Day, but not that many actually think about the steps it will take to achieve them. A step-by-step plan should get set in place at the time the resolution is made. It will help people see what smaller goals they need to meet along the way to achieve the final end result they desire. Without this plan in place, people will wander aimlessly without ever reaching the final destination.

This new year, people hoping to make changes in their life should start off strong and continue their efforts from month-to-month. With some tips to think about, those who have set goals can have an easier time accomplishing what they want to achieve. And if you didn't have a goal by Jan. 1, it's never too late to try to improve yourself or your health.
