Chiropractic Help with Your Headaches

By Sara Butler

Headaches can really throw off your day. There you are, minding your own business, when suddenly you are sidelined by a terrible pain in your head. What do you do? And why on earth do you have a headache in the first place? Well, there’s more than one type of headache out there, but your chiropractor is available to help determine what’s going on and help give your headaches the boot.

Tension Headaches

Tension headaches are the most common type of headache in adults. They’re uncomfortable to be sure, but they normally don’t have an impact beyond discomfort such as vision changes. They’re no fun, but they usually don’t impact your ability to complete your normal activities in a day.

Tension headaches can be caused by a variety of things -- anything that causes you tension -- such as:

  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Hunger
  • Poor posture
  • Lack of sleep

If you regularly suffer from tension headaches, then you need to take a look at your lifestyle and determine how you can make small changes that will help ease your tension headaches.

Cluster Headaches

Cluster headaches can be incredibly painful as pain appears in short bursts chronically over the course of several weeks or months. The best way to tell if your headache is a cluster headache is to think about where you feel the pain. Cluster headaches are one-sided, meaning that the pain is on one side of your head or the other -- never on both sides at once.

Aside from the pain, you may also experience nasal congestion on one side of your face and watering eyes. Sufferers from cluster headaches find they have them seasonally, which is why many people write them off as allergies when they’re actually not. The cause of cluster headaches isn’t entirely known, but your chiropractor may be able to help you through adjustments to your spine since experts now theorize that this type of headache may involve nerves in your face and neck.

Sinus Headaches

The big daddy of the headache world, sinus headaches are quite widespread. They are the result of inflammation of your sinuses and are often accompanied by a runny nose, fever, and even swelling in the face.

If you suffer from headaches and are unsure why, discuss it with your chiropractor at your next visit. They may be able to help you figure it out and help you to put a stop to it!
