6 Things Your Chiropractor Wants You to Stop Doing
By Brandi Goodman
Certain activities and actions can quickly lead to back pain. The more you continue to do them, the worse your pain will get. Your chiropractor wants you to stop doing these things that are causing unnecessary discomfort and start making changes in your daily habits. You'll be all the better for it.
Stop Slouching
Slouching is a significant cause of pain for many people. Stop slouching while you're sitting or standing and make sure to keep your spine straight and your body upright. Your back will be grateful.
Stop Sitting on Your Wallet
Men, in particular, tend to carry a wallet in the back pocket of their pants. Others may put a phone or other items there as well. Stop sitting on your wallet or anything else. Doing so causes your body to sit unevenly and throw off your spine. This can lead to lower back pain. Make sure to remove anything from your back pockets before you sit so you don't have that problem.
Stop Sitting for Hours
Sitting down for hours on end is not recommended. It's always advised that you get up and stretch at the very least. Better yet, try to do other activities that can keep you upright while you're trying to enjoy your typical sit-down activities. If you want to sit and watch television, watch while on the treadmill instead.
Stop Lifting With a Bent Back
The saying "lift with your legs" was created for a reason. You need to squat down and get any items you need to carry into your arms carefully before using your legs to lift yourself up to a standing position. Do not bend your back to grab something. You will undoubtedly pull something and end up in serious pain.
Stop Drinking Soda Pop and Juice
Caffeinated beverages and drinks full of sugar are not ideal in the slightest. These are often addictive, making people reliant on them for daily energy. Soda pop and juice are packed with too much sugar and calories -- not to mention the harmful chemicals. Your body needs water to stay hydrated, flexible, and feeling well.
Stop Skipping Safety Protocols
Safety protocols get set for a reason. Always be sure to follow them no matter where you're at or what you're doing. Lifting with your legs falls under this category. You should also wear the proper gear when completing a potentially dangerous task, wear the right shoes for the activity you're doing, and follow any other recommended advice to keep yourself safe and healthy.
