Fighting Weight Gain: 3 Tips to Stop the Pounds Now
By Genevieve Cunningham
Weight gain. If the thought of gaining weight doesn't bother you, you're lucky. For most of us, gaining weight creates stress and worry. How will we get it off? How much exercise do we have to do? Do we really have to go on a diet? If this sounds a lot like your own thoughts, it's time to take a deep breath. Weight gain is frustrating, but it's not the end of the world. If you need a little help stopping the gain and dropping some pounds, take a look at these tips to get you moving in the right direction.
Get Up and Move
If weight loss -- or even just stopping weight gain -- is the goal, then you absolutely have to move your body. Movement burns calories, and the only way to maintain weight is by watching your calorie consumption. If you want to join a gym and go to a structured class, go for it, but that's not the only way to get moving. If you would rather stay home, then go for a walk outside, do some calisthenics during your favorite show, or follow a video in your living room. Just move! You may be surprised at the huge difference more movement makes in your overall health, your weight, and the way you feel overall.
Drink More Water All Day Long
Water is the best choice for your body. When we drink water, we are keeping our stomachs full, maintaining a proper level of hydration, and improving our basic health. For weight loss, more water means less calories -- and this can help you drop a few pounds. If you need a morning pick-me-up, that's fine. But once your coffee is gone and your day has started, stick with water to see real and lasting results.
Consider Fasting
Fasting can be a really good way to restart the healthy eating process. It gives your body and mind a pause. It allows your stomach to empty and cravings to pass. The key to a fast is to make sure it's safe for you. Certain health conditions prohibit fasting. Ask your doctor whether a 24-hour fast would be a safe approach, and then give it a try if you get the green light.
Weight gain happens. We aren't going to stay the exact same size and weight forever. It's just not going to happen. So don't get too discouraged when you see the scale go up a bit. But it's also OK to actively manage it in order to stay healthy. Use these tips to help keep your weight under control, and start feeling better in your health, skin, and life as soon as today.
