We seem to be in the thick of it right now. Celebrating one holiday after the next, attending party after party. It’s hard to stay focused with all of the festivities swirling around, and it’s especially hard for our children. They are in the middle of all this fun craziness as well, and they have probably started counting down the days until the next vacation break. Hopefully, they aren’t too consumed with thoughts of the benefits that come with vacation (sleeping in, staying up late, and having no homework responsibilities) and they are still able to stay focused and committed to their responsibilities at school. But what if they’re not? What can you do to help?

Keeping Our Children Focused and Calm

This is quite possibly the busiest time of the year, and many children slowly start to check out as the end of the year gets nearer. Here are some tips to help them stay focused until that magical start of vacation begins.

Diet – For kids to concentrate their best, a nutritious diet is needed, and breakfast is the time to shine. Try to get some protein in their bodies before they leave in the morning, add some vegetables to their eggs, or make a fruit smoothie with whole, natural ingredients. Try to avoid the sugary cereals, the energy drinks, or the frozen coffee concoctions that you can find at the local drive-thrus.

Sleep – Getting plentiful, quality sleep is essential for the development of our children, and is a critical component for helping them to successfully manage their time at school. It helps them maintain their focus and concentration during class, helps regulate their emotions and moods during the day, and improves their immune system. Establishing a bedtime routine, removing electronic devices from the bedroom, and avoiding sugary and caffeinated drinks in the evening will help to create healthy sleep habits that will positively impact your children’s day.
