The Best Gift Is the Gift of Good Health
By Donna Stark
You've heard about the 12 days of Christmas, but have you also heard about the 12 days of fitness? No? Well, that makes sense because I just made it up, but think about it for a moment. Instead of giving gifts that nobody really wants (like those 11 piping pipers), why don't you give yourself the gift of good health? And since you can't get anything better than that, you may want to start planning for it now! Here are some great ideas that can easily turn into lifelong, healthy habits once you give them a try. Take a look.
Daily Exercise
Come on, you can do it! You only need to spare 30 minutes of your day to improve your overall physical and mental health. Daily exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight, reduce your risk of illness and disease, improve cognitive function, and alleviate stress and anxiety. Challenge yourself to morning walks, weekend hikes, and extra time on the treadmill.
Healthy Breakfasts
Those few extra minutes in bed during the winter season are often more tempting than the ones you may spend in the kitchen, but a healthy breakfast will do more for your body than that little bit of interrupted sleep will. Eating a nutrient-dense meal before you head out the door will increase your energy, productivity, and feelings of fullness.
Proper Hydration
If you have sore joints, a foggy brain, low energy, and killer headaches, you may want to take a look at how much water you drink each day. More than likely, you are dehydrated, so pull that water bottle out of your pantry and keep refilling it throughout the day. You may be surprised by how quickly those symptoms disappear once you start drinking enough.
Self-Love
Treating yourself to positive affirmations and some extra special care goes a long way when it comes to your overall well-being. Mental health is just as important as your physical health, so take the time to find what it is that reduces your stress, fills your heart, and challenges your soul.
Amazing Sleep
There's no way around it. Your body needs rest and if it's not getting enough of it, you will begin to notice. Sleep deprivation can lead to accidents, poor health, mood swings, and unproductive days. Establish a healthy bedtime routine that includes relaxation, a break from electronics, and an incredible sleep environment that promotes quality rest.
The Best Gift Yet
Giving yourself the gift of improved health and wellness is something that should be done every year, so don't let this season go by without it! Plan for and establish those healthy habits so you can start the new year feeling and looking your absolute best!
