Why You Should Consider Waking Up Earlier

By Genevieve Cunningham

It's so easy to get into unhealthy habits. Whether it's poor food choices or too much TV, bad habits are a part of who we are. But sometimes we have bad habits that we don't even realize are harming our health. Like what? Like staying up late and sleeping in! Sure, it feels good, but is it really worth it? If you're not much of a morning person, take a look at these reasons to consider waking up earlier every day.

You Can Get More Done

Research has repeatedly shown that people who get up early tend to be more productive. Is this the case with all people? Of course not. But if you are an early riser, your odds of being productive are much better. The mornings give you a chance to catch up on things that you didn't get finished the day before. Or it might just give you the opportunity to wake up and have more focus before you get to work. Whatever the case may be, if you would like to be more productive in your life, you should attempt to get up early everyday.

You Might Get Better Sleep

If you're waking up late in the mornings, chances are good that you're also going to bed late at night. Why? Because waking up late means you're not tired when bedtime rolls around. If you wake up earlier, then your body will be ready for sleep earlier in the evening. While this might sound like a bad thing at first blush, it actually means that you'll probably get better sleep and more sleep in the long run. If you're constantly tired, waking up earlier might be a great way to improve your sleep and your health all in one go.

You Might Improve Your Moods

Waking up earlier often means that you have better routines. You're probably on a better schedule, and you tend to stick to your schedule on most days. Those who stick to a schedule on most days tend to have better moods than those whose schedules are more chaotic. If you feel as though you suffer from a bit of moodiness, waking up a little earlier, having some time for yourself, and slowly working your way into the day may be all it takes to get your moods under control.

It's really easy to get in the habit of staying up late. But if you really want to have better health, you should make early mornings a part of your life. Take it slowly, as making the switch can be difficult. But stay the course, and you will be enjoying your early mornings and better health before you know it.
