Feeling Blue? Eat Blueberries!

Seasonal depression is common for millions of people. The colder weather, time spent inside, lack of socializing, and more can lead to feelings of sadness, loneliness, and worse. When you're feeling blue, people have lots of tips for how you can feel better. Sure, it's good to exercise, call up your friend, and get outdoors. But have you tried blueberries? The fruit is actually quite beneficial when you're feeling down.
The Healthy Snack Won't Bring Guilt
Depression can lead to unhealthy eating habits. You may be tempted to grab some sugary sweets to help soothe your sadness. Be sure to drink plenty of water as well even if you're frequently enjoying the hydrating fruit with it.
They Can Reduce Stress
Stress can have a major impact on mental health. The more stressed and overwhelmed you feel, the easier it is for mental illnesses to take hold of your mind. You can even experience memory loss and changes to your brain's structure because of prolonged stress. Adding blueberries to your weekly menu can help to combat these effects and keep your brain healthy and well. The antioxidants and vitamins within them are necessary for reducing the effects of stress and keeping your mind working sufficiently.
Don't Like Blueberries? Try These!
Blueberries aren't the only food that can help your mental health. If you don't like the small fruit bites, try something different. Eggs, salmon, spinach, nuts, chicken, quinoa, sweet potatoes, and apples are all beneficial for your brain. Turn to these health foods when you're feeling stressed to help diminish your symptoms.
No, blueberries and other foods aren't a cure-all for your depression or loneliness. However, they can bring some sense of peace to your mind for a short time. The tiny bluish-purple morsels in particular are low in calories and high in antioxidants -- incredibly beneficial for your mental (and physical) well-being.
