How to Find More Time for Fitness
By Genevieve Cunningham
Even if you’ve been ignoring the advice over the years, we all know that fitting exercise into our lives is extremely important. Of course, we all have a million excuses as to why we can’t work out. We don’t know what to do. We can’t afford the gym. And the most common excuse of all: We don’t have time. If this last excuse is your go-to for avoiding exercise, it’s time to make a change. Take a look at these tips for fitting exercise into your schedule so that you can improve your health for good.
Wake Up Earlier
Do you hit the snooze a few times before you finally get up? Do you get up with just barely enough time to get dressed and get out the door on time? If you want to exercise, maybe it’s time to wake up 15-30 minutes earlier. In a short amount of time in the morning, you may be able to squeeze in some squats, stretching, simple handheld weights, or a quick walk. It doesn’t take much exercise to make you feel better. Set your alarm clock a little bit earlier, and get out of the bed for some movement.
Use Your Lunch or Breaks
If you really don’t have any time at all during the day, use your lunch break or other breaks appropriately. Before you eat, do 20 squats and 20 crunches. Eat your lunch and then spend the rest of the time walking around the block. It’s true that this method won’t get you ripped in a month or anything, but it will absolutely move you toward a better body and better health.
Make a Schedule
Some people need things explicitly laid out in their schedule if it has any prayer of actually happening. If this is you, go ahead and put it down. Mark it in pen … on these days at this time it’s gym time. This helps make it a priority in your schedule, and you’re more likely to actually make it happen.
Getting in some exercise is important. It’s important enough to squeeze it in at any possible moment. It will only be hard in the beginning. Once you make it part of your routine, getting in exercise will be second nature. Use these tips to get started, and your body and life will be moving toward better health before you know it.
