3 Reasons to Find a New Doctor
By Genevieve Cunningham
Doctors are professionals that we all need in our lives. We need their expertise and their skills. We need their advice, even when we don’t want to hear it. But the doctor-patient relationship is tricky. Just as each patient is different, each doctor is different. And finding a good match for you is key to your overall health and wellness. If you think you may need a new doctor in your life, take a look at these signs that a change would be good for your health.
Yours Isn’t Listening
A good doctor is a good listener. It's true that they have to see a lot of patients in one day, but a good doctor knows that every patient matters. They won't rush you in an out just to see more patients. If you don't feel like your doctor really listens to your concerns, find a new one. Communication is key in any doctor-patient relationship, so make this a top priority.
You Don’t Trust Them
If you don't trust your doctor, you're not going to do what they ask. And if you don't try the treatment, you'll never get better. This sets up an unhealthy cycle in your doctor and health situation. If you don't trust your doctor, ask yourself why. And if you can't learn to trust them, find a doctor who you feel confident has your best interest at heart.
They Don’t Adhere to Your Beliefs
It's important to note that doctors know more than you. They're more experienced and more educated. So it's possible that they'll tell you things that you don't want to hear. But it's also important to know when your health philosophy and theirs are too far apart. If you firmly believe in modern medicine, and your doctor is more of a natural health buff, you may want a new doctor. Find a doctor who has a similar approach as you do, and both parties will be much more comfortable and happy.
Finding the right doctor can be tough. It takes a lot of work and effort to find the right match. But since you'll be seeing your doctor for the rest of your life, it's a relationship worth building. Do a little research, find someone who suits your life, and get in the best health of your life.
