Who Should and Shouldn't Be Trying Crossfit

By Genevieve Cunningham

There are workouts out there to fit every body type and every personality. And every once in a while, a specific workout becomes incredibly popular. It seems like everyone is doing the newest fad workout, and if you’re not doing it, you suddenly feel like you should jump on the bandwagon. But the truth is that not all of these popular workouts are for everyone. And this is especially true for one of the hottest workout programs right now -- Crossfit. This intense exercise is not for everyone. But how do you know whether to give it a go or not? If you’ve been curious about this popular program, take a look at who should and shouldn’t try Crossfit to help them get fit.

You Should Try It

  • You like intensity - Crossfit is really intense. If you like fast-paced, push harder, break a sweat kind of workouts, Crossfit might be for you.

  • You want to get really ripped - Most people who go all in at Crossfit get really ripped. If you’re after this look, go ahead and give it a try.

  • You like big challenges - There is no denying that Crossfit is a challenge. A big challenge. But some people really like that! If you like the big challenges, Crossfit will keep you on your toes.

You Shouldn’t Try It

  • You usually like low-impact workouts - Crossfit is anything but low-impact. It’s fast and tough and high intensity. If you don’t like to go with high-impact workouts, Crossfit is not for you.

  • You don’t have much time - Crossfit takes time. Most gyms offer classes multiple times per week, and they’ll last about an hour. If you don’t time to commit to your fitness, don’t go with Crossfit.

  • You like to work out alone - Crossfit is a team sport. You’ll be pushed and motivated by other Crossfitters, and each workout is team oriented. If you would rather work out solo, Crossfit may not be for you.

Anyone can try Crossfit, but it’s definitely more suited to certain people. If you’re still curious, check out a local gym. Most will let you watch for free, and they may even let you join your first class for free! But get prepared first. Make sure it’s a good fit for you before jumping in with both feet. With a little preparation, you can find the perfect workout for your life, whether it’s Crossfit, yoga, or something else.
