Stress-Busting Activities to Do Today
By Genevieve Cunningham
Stress. It's going to happen. In fact, it's going to happen to all of us, and it's going to happen over and over again throughout our lives. We simply can't eliminate all stressors from life. But if we want to maintain good health, it's imperative that we learn how to manage the stress in our lives. And one way to do this is by choosing activities that lower those feelings of stress. But what kind of activities can do this? If you would like to get a handle on your stress and improve your health, take a look at these stress-busting activities to give a try today.
Running or Walking
Running or walking -- or almost any exercise that tires you out -- is a great way to reduce stress and improve health at the same time. When the body is focused on movement, it can't focus on mental stress at the same time. As your workout progresses, the mental stressors will slip away making room for the physical stress that you're putting on your body. The best part about this technique is that it's so easy. Simply go for a brisk walk or light jog every evening, and go to bed with less stress every night.
Laughing
Laughing is the best medicine. It's incredibly difficult to be stressed when you're in the midst of a belly-busting laugh session. If you have friends who make you laugh, meet with them on a regular basis. This lifts your spirits in multiple ways and definitely lowers stress. If you don't have friends available, throw on a funny movie or watch some funny videos on the internet. After a good laugh, your stress won't feel quite as important and your mood will be better than ever.
Yoga or Meditation
Both yoga and meditation serve the same purpose when it comes to stress. They calm the body from the inside out. Each practice requires your mind to be still, your breathing to be deep, and your body to be challenged. Most people who take on either -- or both -- of these practices report a calmer sense of self, better coping techniques, less stress, and overall better health. Adding these to your life may be all it takes to keep your stress under control.
Stress can take a toll on the way that you feel, both mentally and physically. But having a plan of action really helps! Use these tips to get a handle on your stress and feel better than ever. Less stress and better health? A win-win for your health and your life.
