3 Ways to Increase Personal Productivity

By Genevieve Cunningham

Everyone wants and needs to be productive. We need to be productive at work in order to finish projects and keep moving forward. We need to be productive at home in order to create a comfortable home atmosphere and keep things in order. But productivity isn't easy, as most everyone already knows. Luckily, there are some ways that we can improve our own productivity in order to get more done and feel accomplished. If you need help getting yourself moving, take a look at these tips for more productivity today.

Reduce Distractions

Distractions are. well, distracting! If you have a ton of distractions in your workday, it's going to be so much harder to get things done. These might include the internet, the phone, and even other people. Do whatever you can to minimize these distractions. The fewer things you have vying for your attention, the easier it is to focus on the task at hand.

Focus

Focus can be really hard to find. And when we try to do a million things at once, that focus is even harder to find. If you have a few things to work on, do only one at a time. It might seem like you're not getting anything done, but you'll actually accomplish more if you give each task your full attention. As Americans, we've been taught that multitasking is better, but it's not. Do one thing at a time and it will be easier to focus and actually get things done in a timely manner.

Set Realistic Goals

If you set out to accomplish too much, you'll only get frustrated. And when you get frustrated, it's even harder to pay attention to what needs to be done. Instead of getting mad because you didn't accomplish a giant goal, set some smaller attainable goals. Be realistic in your approach to productivity. The more realistic you are, the easier it is to make small successes, which makes it easier and more enjoyable to keep going.

Productivity is certainly key. We need it in so many aspects of life. If you're having trouble being productive, use these tips to turn it around. With some practice and some deliberate changes in your approach to work, you may be able to accomplish more than ever before.
