Easing Into Fall: Tips That Keep Your Health Intact

By Genevieve Cunningham

It's still summer. The sun is still shining bright. Kids are still out on break. Vacations are happening, summer deals are still in full swing, and we're all soaking in the last days of freedom. But very soon, much sooner than we would like to admit, the winds of fall will be blowing in. Even in mild climates like in Santa Monica, fall just brings a change to the air. We start thinking of back-to-school events and the holidays. And with all of the change that comes at this time of year, we often forget completely about our own self-care. But now, with the change upon us, it's more important than ever to stay on top of your wellness. If you would like to transition into the new season with your health intact, take a look at these tips to help you do it.

Go With the Flow in Your Diet

The change of season also brings a change in diet. Not only does produce change, but recipes change with the season too. The summer is full of fruits and fresh veggies. The fall is full of comfort foods and delicious sweet treats. If you want to stay healthy, just go with the flow. Does this mean to eat all the goodies? No! But indulge in healthy new recipes and allow the occasional treat. Going with the flow instead of relying on restriction will be better for your mental health and your long-term success as well.

Keep Moving

Schedules change in the fall. Kids go back to school. Work hours might change slightly. Activities are in full swing. It's easy to let your own workout routine fall by the wayside. But at this time of year, it's crucial that you keep moving. This helps you stay at a healthy weight, and it will also help with energy levels as well. Though it can be hard to keep up, make time for movement and you'll feel better all through the season.

Make Sure You're Getting Enough Rest

Rest is crucial at this time of year. With activities and holidays and all of the fun, we tend to get less rest than we need. Stick to a schedule as much as you can. Go to bed on time, and avoid the super late nights. The more on schedule you're able to stay, the better rest you'll get, and the healthier you'll be long-term.

The change of seasons -- with the holiday fun and change in schedules -- is one of the most fun times of the year. Who doesn't love to keep it interesting? Who doesn't love to change it up from time to time? We all do! But make sure that your health stays a top priority. Use these tips to put your health first, and transition seamlessly into the next season for more fun and happiness ahead.
