What Is the Meaning of This?
By Sandy Schroeder
In a chaotic world, we sometimes ask the question, "What is the meaning of all this?" After a long day, week, or yes, year, it is tempting to ask that everything be cleared up and made right. Work will go faster. Families will be healthier and happier and we will all sleep better. That may be a tall order with much to do, but I believe we are up to the challenge if we work on it.
Pick Your Favorite Tools
Just choose the tools that suit you best, like honesty, humor, and love and apply them wherever you can with family, friends, neighbors and community. Then watch what happens! Things are bound to get better.
Recently I heard a friend say she stopped whining and started reaching out more, and slowly but surely everything in her life got better. What goes around really does come around.
Start With Honesty
Take a long look at yourself and those around you to see what everyone needs. Some of us need more free time to just enjoy life a bit. Others desperately need to get out and jog, run or bike to lift the spirit and tone the body. Finally, most of us need to eat better, and perhaps a little less. Do what you can to improve and help others get what they need.
Toss in Some Humor
With all of the tasks ahead in the New Year, a sense of humor is definitely needed to help us maintain our balance. Watch for the little things that make you smile and look for the funny things in life that always seem to happen when life gets crazy. Just as you are writing an important article, or making a single significant statement, your kids and their dog may come dashing through. Or the cat begins to howl. If you roll with the punches and just keep smiling, it will all work out. Promise.
Add a Dose of Love
When someone is close to tears, or truly down on their luck, take the time to lend a hand. Listen, comfort and just be there for your kids, your spouse, your friends and your neighbors. When you need help, they will all be there for you too.
Defining what the meaning of all of this is in our individual spheres and the world around us has never been easy, but now it does seem harder. However it feels to you right now, take a deep breath and move on ahead. Give it your best and don't be surprised when everyone around you does too!
