Tricks for Staying Motivated When You Want to Quit
By Genevieve Cunningham
Whether you’re trying to lose weight, attempting a new workout routine, or simply improving your daily health maintenance, the hardest part is finding the motivation to see it through. Many find the motivation in the beginning, but as the humdrum of the job rolls on and the newness wears off, motivation tends to wane quickly. So what’s a person to do? To find your motivation all over again and get your health on the right track, check out these three tips for increasing your motivation today.
Have Some Fun for a Few Days
If you’re feeling the grind, don’t be afraid to change it up for a few days. Throw the scheduled tough workout out the window and just have some fun for a few days. Try something new, join a game, or go back and enjoy an old favorite. It won’t hurt your overall progress because you’ll still be moving and exercising, but it will definitely change your outlook on your workout routine and give your mind and focus some much needed fresh air.
Enlist the Help of a Friend
If you’re suffering through all alone, try asking a friend or family member to accompany you to the gym for a few days. Sometimes having a buddy pushes you through a slump and keeps you moving. And as a bonus, you may even spark an interest in them, ultimately leading to a healthy lifestyle change for your friend as well. Friends are great at lifting our mood and changing our perspective. Find a friend, get to the gym, and you will probably see a rise in motivation.
Set a Serious Goal
While taking a fun approach can work, sometimes we all need a serious push. If this is you, try setting a serious goal that you know you’ll stick to. The goal itself doesn’t have to revolve around something serious, but it should be something that you truly desire so that you’re more likely to see it through to the end. It might be a certain weight loss before your next doctor’s appointment, fitting into that perfect pair of pants, or any great number of personal goals that get us excited. If you can find something to work toward, motivation often follows closely behind.
There’s no denying that keeping the motivation alive is a tough job. But if you found it once, you can absolutely find it again. Use these tips to get your motivation back where it belongs, and watch your health and fitness improve more than ever before.
