How to Stop Getting Bogged Down

Sometimes everything seems so easy as we breeze through work, enjoy our family, and still have room for little extras. Other times, it’s like walking through concrete, one painful step after another. Here are some habits that are guaranteed to bog us down from

Worry Just Takes Over – Worry steals the joy of the moment. There’s always another storm cloud in the distance to consider. Someone wise once said, “A problem is no greater than the power you give it.” Use your energy wisely to find solutions as you move ahead.

Interruptions Can Multiply -  Allowing no one to interrupt our workflow simply won’t happen. But permitting everybody to zigzag through can seriously reduce productivity and compromise quality. Consider rethinking your work structure, reserving a few times to respond to emails, calls and questions.

Waiting Becomes a Way of Life – If you have the power to move ahead, take the challenge and do it. Waiting for the absolute perfect time can be a seductive trap. There’s always one more reason to wait, but the time lost can never be recovered.

Procrastination Becomes An Art – Our list of things to do can just keep growing as we create a backup of work, and emails and texts to answer. All of the waiting work becomes a shadow following us everywhere we go. To stop procrastinating, we have to sit down, review what has to be done, and then just start chipping away to bring everything up to speed. When that happens, the mental relief can be amazing.

Doing Too Much Becomes A Habit – Saying yes to one project after six others is very tempting. But picking and choosing, giving your very best to the ones selected, could be much more satisfying and rewarding as you work at your best level.

Moving Ahead, Then Hesitating – When we wonder too much about what we are doing, we may let little things shut us down. It becomes too easy to second guess everything. Do your best to put things in focus and then take the risk. Now you have time to start another project.

If you recognize some of these habits, or can think of others that are bogging you down, you might create some little symbol or sign on your desk, desktop or fridge that reminds you to keep moving.
