Headaches and Health: 3 Things to Consider for Relief

By Genevieve Cunningham

Headaches happen to everyone. For most people, headaches are something that happens once in a while. It might come with an illness or with an outside stimulus like loud noise. Most of the time, we're able to deal with the headache and move on. But what happens when your headaches begin to increase in frequency? Something has to be done! If you've noticed an increase in the amount or severity of your headaches, take a look at these three possible causes, plus some solutions to get you feeling better now.

Get Your Eyes Checked

If your eyes are struggling, it can lead to headaches every day. Some people notice the decline in their eyesight. But other times, the decline is so gradual that we don't even notice it. We may need assistance in the form of glasses or contacts, but we don't realize. If your headaches are persistent, it might not be a bad idea to get your eyes checked out. Regular checkups are good anyway, so even if your eyes are OK, you'll still be getting a little good from your trip to the eye doctor.

Lower Your Daily Stress

It's not easy to lower your stress, but it's definitely important. Too much stress can lead to headaches, high blood pressure, and many other declines in health. But how do you lower stress? You'll need a few tactics: reduce, relax, and rest. Start by reducing your workload. This might mean cutting back on extra activities or saying no to extra work on the job. Then make sure you're getting in some relaxation time -- whether that's lying around or engaging in a hobby. Finally, make sure you're getting adequate rest so that your brain can recoup from the demands of the day. It will take some time, but by reducing your stress, you can eliminate your headaches and feel better every day.

Get Enough Sleep

A lack of sleep can lead to headaches. It could be a mild, nagging headache, or it could be a borderline migraine headache. And if your headache is caused by a lack of sleep, the only real cure is to catch up. Start going to bed earlier every night. It takes time for your body to catch up on lost sleep, so be patient. And once you start feeling better, stick with your better sleeping habits or the headaches will only come right back.

You don't have to suffer with headaches. There are ways to deal with the pain and ways to keep the headaches from returning. Use these tips to get started down the right path and start living your daily life headache- and pain-free.
