Easy Ways to Get A Better Sleep

Although most of us know that getting a good night's sleep is important for health and well-being, few people appreciate just how important getting good sleep really is. Sleep is your brain's time to repair its all-important neurons, ensuring you have the energy and focus you need to make it through the day. Sleep also allows your brain to create and store memories, which could be why missing out on sleep can lead to poorer memory. If you find yourself groggy and suffering from brain fog more days than not, changing your bedtime routine could help you get the sleep you need.
Set a Solid Routine
If you're having trouble falling asleep or don't seem to feel tired when you go to bed, setting a bedtime for yourself could work wonders. This is because going to bed at about the same time every night helps to prime your body and mind for sleep. Your body should acclimate to this change after sticking to a consistent bedtime for several weeks. You should begin to start to feel yourself getting sleepy as the clock starts edging closer and closer to your chosen bedtime.
No Phones in the Bedroom
Checking your phone or browsing the internet on your computer before bed keeps your brain engaged and active -- the opposite of the ideal bedtime situation. Besides keeping your brain engaged for prolonged periods, having your phone with you while you sleep makes it hard to shut off from the world and really rest. Setting a rule to stop looking at your phone an hour before bedtime can help you to relax and feel free from the burden of being constantly plugged in.
Make Time to Relax
Since most people find it difficult to go from their daily routines straight into sleep, taking time to wind down before going to bed can help you to relax enough to be able to hit the hay. Set aside 30 minutes to an hour every night to read your favorite book, meditate, listen to some ambient music, or whatever else helps you to get into a restful state of mind. If you tend to worry about the events of the day before you sleep, setting aside time during the day to deal with your stressors can help you to feel empowered and better prepared and give you room to free up your mind at the end of the day.
Just like getting enough exercise and adequate nutrition, getting quality sleep is an important way to ensure improved cognition and ensure you have the energy you need to be healthy. Making simple changes to your routine and sticking to them are important ways to ensure you get the sleep you need.
